In our quest to learn more about the surrounding areas of Stuttgart, we are stopping in at Plochingen next. It isn’t every day that we get the opportunity to hear about a local town’s history as well as see works by the famous artist and architect, Hundertwasser.
Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser was an Austrian artist and architect whose artistic vision expressed itself in pictorial art, environmentalism, philosophy, and design of facades, postage stamps, flags, and clothing (among other areas). While his real last name was “Stowasser” he went by his pseudonym Hundertwasser. He was born just prior to WWII and survived by posing as a Christian and even joining the Hitler Youth.
He passed away in February 2000 and was most famous for his opposition to the “straight line” and any standardization. Common themes in his work included bright colors, organic forms, a reconciliation of humans with nature, and a strong individualism. While his best known work is in Vienna, we are happy to have a unique and interesting Hundertwasser building in Plochingen that we will be seeing on this tour.
Learn more about the artist in this entertaining design podcast.
After the tour, all participants are invited to join us for an optional breakfast buffet (not a brunch) at the Princess Hotel.
