You might have seen this recently in an IWCS special event:
“This is a +1 event”
This is what we named our guest policy in 2016 and here’s how it works:
From time to time we offer outings and tours that can accommodate a larger number of participants. In the past, we’ve sometimes opened extra spaces to partners and sometimes filled spots at the last minute with prospective members or friends. This wasn’t always the fairest system, so we created the +1 guest system.
When an event is marked +1, this means that:
- Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend.
- Your +1 can be a partner, adult family member, or friend.
- You and your guest each pay the member cost listed in the event.
Adult family member could mean your spouse, a parent or sibling who is in town, or a child over age 18. Sometimes younger children will also be invited, depending on the particular event (check the write up for details).
To confirm your reservation, you may be asked to prepay your part of the cost by a certain date. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us before the deadline, please speak directly with the host.
Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.
If an event has to be cancelled by the IWCS due to lack of interest, you can choose between donating the amount to the Frauenhaus or having the payment returned.
