English-Language Walking Tour of Marbach
For members and their +1 guest
Wednesday October 9 from 11:15
Host: Member Alison Tyler
Nearest station: Marbach Bahnhof (S4)
Meeting point: Marbach Bahnhof
Cost: €5 per person, paid in advance no later than September 16th
The gorgeous city of Marbach am Neckar is the birthplace of Friedrich Schiller, Germany’s equivalent of Shakespeare. His first play, Die Räuber (The Robbers), made him an overnight sensation by critiquing social corruptions and affirming revolutionary ideals, making him rather unpopular with Duke Karl Eugen, the ruler of Württemberg at that time.
There is however, more to Marbach than just Schiller. The town on the Neckar river is one of the oldest country towns of Württemberg and is protected in its entirety under Denkmalschutz. Here you can see lovingly restored half-timbered houses, fountains, and remains of the medieval fortifications with the distinctive Obere Torturm or upper gate tower, along with picturesque streets and churches.
Our guide from the Marbach Tourist Office will show us all of this and more in our 90 minute walk. We will start at the train station and end at Jägers Restaurant Schillerhöhe. Interested members are welcome to stay for lunch.
The tour can accommodate up to 30 participants and our route is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
The tour itself will be sponsored in full by the club and we are requesting a €5 per person donation to the Frauenhaus prepaid no later than September 16th in order to hold your spot.
This is a +1 event, which means:
- Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend (18+)
- Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, older child, or friend.
- You and your guest each pay the member cost listed above.
To start the reservation process, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below to contact the activities team if you are not on Facebook.
Please complete your reservation by transferring your prepayment no later than September 16th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.
Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.
