If you love our club and want to help us succeed this year, please consider volunteering by running for one of the open positions on our Steering Committee. Our leadership positions are for a term of one year, ending at the next annual members meeting in March of 2025.

Here are all the details:

Ingrid & Suzan were a formidable team last year and coordinated many fun and popular monthly dinners. Ingrid will be continuing with this position in 2024 and we are looking for a second person to divide the work between them.

The dinner coordinator should be someone who is outgoing, friendly, and extroverted. You will be choosing restaurants, making and managing reservations, and greeting members and guests on the evening of the event. It’s a great job that doesn’t take too much time for someone who loves going out to dinner and meeting up with other members.

Right now we have a team of two fantastic event planners, Kim and Angela. We would like to add a third person so that Kim can concentrate more on charity fundraising.

If exploring cool new places in Stuttgart is one of your passions and you are organized and reliable, this is a perfect position for you. Basic knowledge of German can be helpful but isn’t required, as so many places here now also communicate in English. The newer you are to Stuttgart, the better!

Both of these open positions are part of our leadership team and help us make decisions about the direction of the club. We meet in person every other month for dinner (optional but encouraged) and chat regularly in our Facebook and Whatsapp groups.

If you would like to volunteer for any of these positions or if you have more questions, please contact Emily or Sandra.

February 2024: Family Movie Event at the Corso – The Wizard of Oz

IWCS members, guests, and friends of the club are all welcome!
Saturday, February 24th from 13:30
Location: Corso Kino, Haupstrasse 6, 70563 Stuttgart-Vaihingen
Nearest stations: Vaihingen Bahnhof (S) or Vaihingen Schillerplatz (U)

We are pleased to invite everyone in the local English-speaking community to a special screening of “The Wizard of Oz” in February. Join us for a fun afternoon out with your family while helping us raise money for the Frauenhaus in Stuttgart!

We will have one theater at the Corso Kino all to ourselves and they have generously discounted ticket prices and created fun snack combos just for this fundraising effort. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. Stuttgart for their women’s shelter.

Why a Movie Fundraiser?

Our Charity Coordinator, Kim Jezek, chose a family movie for this fundraiser because our donations help children living in the Frauenhaus enjoy the occasional fun outing, such as going to the movies. If your kids would like to show solidarity with them, we would love to see them dress up as their favorite movie character for our event!

Prices for this event are as follows and payment in advance is required:

  • Adult entrance: €10 (16 and up)
  • Child entrance: €7,50 (under 16)
  • Snack combo adult: €10 (medium popcorn and non-alcoholic drink)
  • Snack combo child: €6 (small popcorn and a drink)

Doors will open at 13:30 so that you have plenty of time to pick up your snacks before the movie starts at 14:00 🍿You can also purchase additional drinks and candy at the counter, but be aware that we will not receive a donation from those items.

Reserve your seats and snacks now!

If you would like to attend our movie event, please register using the link below. You will then receive an email from Kim with your total and our bank information for your pre-payment.

Please note: because it is a private event, this special screening will not appear on the Corso’s website. You can only register and purchase your seats from us directly using this form.

Thanks for your support!

About the Venue and Film

The Corso has been Stuttgart’s favorite place for English-language films since 1984. In addition to showing all the latest Hollywood hits, they frequently show older cult films and offer private screenings to groups such as ours.

“The Wizard of Oz”, originally released in 1939, is often included on lists of the greatest movies of all time. Most everyone knows the iconic story of Dorothy and her little dog Toto and the famous song “Over The Rainbow.”

Seifen Haag has been making beautiful soaps right in Stuttgart since 1756. During our factory tour, we will learn about the fascinating history, process and art of making small-batch, quality organic soaps by hand.

Our one-hour tour of their beautiful historical space will be led (mostly) in English by a member of the Haag family, daughter Nicole Haag. She has advised that some aspects of the soap-making process may be a bit difficult for her to translate into English but our knowledgeable members will be able to help if she gets stuck.

There will be an optional stop for coffee or lunch after the tour.

Wednesday, December 13th starting at 18:30
Location: Stuttgarter Ratskeller, Marktpl. 1, 70173 Stuttgart-Mitte
rsvp deadline DECEMBER 5TH

Our beloved Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange is happening again this December!

This is our chance to come together as a community and enjoy good food and fun during the magical German advent time.

This year’s dinner is being organized by the amazing Ingrid Schneider at the Ratskeller in central Stuttgart (you’ll remember we were there for our Christmas in July last year). It’s under new ownership and the food promises to be a little fancier than the last time we were there.

We will start our evening with a complimentary glass of Sekt at 18:30, followed by a three-course meal. You can find all the details about the menu further on in this post and will be asked for your choices when you RSVP.

After dinner, all members are invited to take part in our optional gift exchange, which is loads of fun every year. If you would like to participate, please bring a wrapped gift worth €15 (no gag or re-gifts please). Choose something that you yourself would be happy to receive because with this exchange, that could very well happen! You do not have to participate in the gift exchange to attend the dinner.

Dress up if you wish!! We are calling the dress code for the evening “Holiday Fabulousness” which means anything festive will work. Choose your outfit carefully, because Sandra has organized fun photobooth-style portraits for those who wish!

And as always, Sandra is also organizing the Frauen helfen Frauen Virtual Giving Tree again this year and you are welcome to bring along your wrapped gift for the shelter to give her at this dinner. All the details can be found in the separate Giving Tree blog post.

This is a members-only event and the IWCS club-sponsored price per person of €40 (for fish or chicken) or €35 (for vegetarian pasta) includes your food, a welcome glass of sparkling wine (or something non-alcoholic), and table water.

PLEASE NOTE that any drinks ordered apart from the provided table water and welcome beverage must be paid for by you on the night of the event.

And now on to the food! Here’s what the Ratskeller has arranged for us:

Appetizer: Mixed green salad
(Rohkostsalat, Blättle- und WIldkräuter, Kartoff elsalat, Kresse & Hausdressing)

Dessert: Chocolate lava cake
(Schokolade, Maracuja, Tonkabohne & Butterkeks)

Choice of main dish:
1 Fish (Confierter Kabeljau mit Spinat, Mais, Butter & Zitrone)
2 Chicken (Maispoularde mit Buntes Marktgemüse, Süßkartoffel & Thymianjus)
3 Vegetarian Pasta (Trüffel, Butter, Salbei & Parmesan)

1️⃣ First RSVP in the private Facebook event in the members group. If you are not on Facebook, please send an email to Emily at the address listed in this newsletter.

2️⃣To complete your reservation, we need your prepayment and food choices. Please transfer the amount for your dinner choice to our bank account before December 5th. Send €35 for vegetarian pasta or €40 for fish or chicken.

**Please put your main dish choice in the notes section of your bank transfer**

Looking forward to celebrating the end of another wonderful year together!

In keeping with one of our favorite annual traditions, the IWCS is once again supporting Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. by creating a virtual Holiday Gift Tree for its residents this December.

Every year our members buy gifts for the women and children living in the Frauenhaus to bring them some extra holiday joy!

1️⃣If you would like to participate, please RSVP in Sandra’s private Facebook event in the members’ group. If you are not on Facebook, you can reply to the email with the current newsletter. Let her know if you would like to buy a gift for a woman or a child.

You will be assigned an anonymous person from the list and given any information that was shared about them such as age or gender, along with any specific wishes that person might have. If no wishes were given, you’ll have to be creative!

2️⃣ Then buy a gift valued between €15-20 and try to keep in mind that the shelter residents come from all cultures and nations and many of the families might not yet have strong German skills or even celebrate Christmas.

It is possible that some of the children’s wishes are a little more expensive, so please let Sandra know if you are willing to spend more than €20.

3️⃣ You will need to wrap the gift and add a tag with the age/gender you were given (e.g. “woman age 30” or “girl age 4”). Because we have no names, this information helps the staff at the shelter identify who it is for.

4️⃣ And finally, you need to get the finished gift to Sandra, who will be taking them all to the shelter in mid-December for their holiday party.

You can:

🎁drop the finished gift off at Sandra’s house in Stuttgart-Zazenhausen

🎁mail them to her home address

🎁buy something online and pay to have it gift wrapped and sent to Sandra – let her know what is coming so she can tag it for you

🎁 or bring it along to the Members Only Holiday Dinner on December 13th or at any other event Sandra is attending before then.

Thank you to all of our members for your continuing enthusiasm for this project every year!

Sunday, December 3rd at 11:00
Location: Sandra’s home in Stuttgart-Zazenhausen
Nearest stations: Zazenhausen Viadukt
Limited to 12 members!

Join us for our Eleventh Annual Christmas Cookie Swap this December!

As always, Sandra will host a unique and delicious brunch to go with all of the cookies and plenty of Sekt will be on hand.

Guests are asked to bake about three dozen of one kind of holiday cookie and bring them along with the recipe so everyone can try them at home! There’s no need to pre-package the cookies; each guest will take the cookies and the quantity they want.

All food and drinks will be provided by the host. A bottle or two of bubbly is always welcome!

This event is limited to 12 guests.

To RSVP, please respond in the pending Facebook event or message Sandra by replaying to this newsletter email if you are not on Facebook.
