ABOUT THIS EVENT

Join us in January for an English-language tour of the Stage Palladium Theater and find out how a big musical production like Disney’s TARZAN comes together.

How many costumes need to be changed? How does the immense stage design work? Who ensures that the actors are on stage in the right place at the right time? We will get a taste of real theater atmosphere behind the scenes.

We will meet at 10:45 and our tour will begin at 11:00 (the tour lasts approx. 60 minutes). Parts of the stage, the theater hall and the operations building will be visited, among other things.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE LOCATION

Our beloved Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange is happening again this December!

This is our chance to come together as a community and enjoy good food and fun during the magical German advent time.

🏠 LOCATION

This year’s dinner is being organized by the amazing Ingrid Schneider at the Ratskeller in central Stuttgart (you’ll remember we were there for our Christmas in July last year). It’s under new ownership and the food promises to be a little fancier than the last time we were there.

We will start our evening with a complimentary glass of Sekt at 18:30, followed by a three-course meal. You can find all the details about the menu further on in this post and will be asked for your choices when you RSVP.

🎁 GIFT EXCHANGE

After dinner, all members are invited to take part in our optional gift exchange, which is loads of fun every year. If you would like to participate, please bring a wrapped gift worth €15 (no gag or re-gifts please). Choose something that you yourself would be happy to receive because with this exchange, that could very well happen! You do not have to participate in the gift exchange to attend the dinner.

👗 DRESS CODE

Dress up if you wish!! We are calling the dress code for the evening “Holiday Fabulousness” which means anything festive will work. Choose your outfit carefully, because Sandra has organized fun photobooth-style portraits for those who wish!

🎄 FHF GIVING TREE

And as always, Sandra is also organizing the Frauen helfen Frauen Virtual Giving Tree again this year and you are welcome to bring along your wrapped gift for the shelter to give her at this dinner. All the details can be found in the separate Giving Tree blog post.

HOLIDAY GIVING TREE FOR FRAUEN HELFEN FRAUEN 2023

In keeping with one of our favorite annual traditions, the IWCS is once again supporting Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. by creating a virtual Holiday Gift Tree for its residents this December.

Every year our members buy gifts for the women and children living in the Frauenhaus to bring them some extra holiday joy!

HOW TO SIGN UP & TAKE PART

1️⃣If you would like to participate, please RSVP in Sandra’s private Facebook event in the members’ group. If you are not on Facebook, you can reply to the email with the current newsletter. Let her know if you would like to buy a gift for a woman or a child.

You will be assigned an anonymous person from the list and given any information that was shared about them such as age or gender, along with any specific wishes that person might have. If no wishes were given, you’ll have to be creative!

2️⃣ Then buy a gift valued between €15-20 and try to keep in mind that the shelter residents come from all cultures and nations and many of the families might not yet have strong German skills or even celebrate Christmas.

It is possible that some of the children’s wishes are a little more expensive, so please let Sandra know if you are willing to spend more than €20.

3️⃣ You will need to wrap the gift and add a tag with the age/gender you were given (e.g. “woman age 30” or “girl age 4”). Because we have no names, this information helps the staff at the shelter identify who it is for.

4️⃣ And finally, you need to get the finished gift to Sandra, who will be taking them all to the shelter in mid-December for their holiday party.

HOW TO GET THE GIFTS TO SANDRA

You can:

🎁drop the finished gift off at Sandra’s house in Stuttgart-Zazenhausen

🎁mail them to her home address

🎁buy something online and pay to have it gift wrapped and sent to Sandra – let her know what is coming so she can tag it for you

🎁 or bring it along to the Members Only Holiday Dinner on December 13th or at any other event Sandra is attending before then.

Thank you to all of our members for your continuing enthusiasm for this project every year!

Location: Restaurant Tauberquelle, Torstraße 19, 70173 Stuttgart-Mitte

Nearest station: Rathaus (U), Stadtmitte (S/U)
Prepayment deadline: November 24th
Host: Katja Zajac

Do you know the story of St. Martin and the geese? The goose became a symbol of this 4th century saint due to a legend that, when trying to avoid being ordained bishop, he hid in a pen of geese whose cackling gave him away.

St. Martin’s Day is celebrated as a Catholic holiday in southern Germany on the 11th day of the 11th month. Because the timing of the holiday falls at the end of the harvest season and the beginning of early sunsets, you will also see little children marching in lantern parades and lots of food.

Let’s celebrate St. Martin’s Day together! Our meal will include roast goose with plenty of traditional side dishes such as dumplings and red cabbage. If you still have room for a dessert, it can be ordered a la carte.

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend.
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, adult child, or friend (adults only)
  • You and your guest each pay the member cost listed below.

Hurry and get your reservation in now! There are only 16 places available.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the private Facebook event or send an email to the contact address in the newsletter if you are not on Facebook. To confirm your reservation, please transfer the €35 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than Friday. November 24th . If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

CALL TO ACTION: FINGER FOOD NEEDED FOR THE FRAUENHAUS!

Frauen helfen Frauen is celebrating their 40th Anniversary and needs our help!

They have asked our members to prepare some finger food for their anniversary celebration on Friday, November 10th.

Approximately 100 guests are expected to attend the party that evening and there should be enough food for each to have about 6 pieces. Therefore, we need a lot of helpers!

You will be asked to provide an ingredient card along with each dish to help those with dietary restrictions. Each volunteer will be assigned a specific time on the afternoon/evening of the event to drop off her donations (which will take place at the Württembergischer Kunstverein on Schlossplatz).

If you can help make their party a success by donating some yummy nibbles, please contact Kim via the email address found in the October newsletter or in the private Facebook event associated with this Call To Action.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
