Please join us for a fun and FREE tour of the Stuttgart city center (in English) with our good friend from Stuttgart Marketing, Petra Rentschler.

For those of you who have done Petra’s tours in the past, you know that each time she shares new places and hilarious stories with us. So even if you’ve been on her tour before, don’t hesitate to come again! This tour is wheelchair and stroller friendly.

New, current, and prospective members are all welcome to attend – this event will take the place of our monthly Welcome Coffee.

We will meet at Königsstrasse 1 at the i-Punkt meeting place outside of the Stuttgart Marketing office (opposite the Hauptbahnhof) at 10:00 and begin our tour promptly at 10:15 . If you get lost or are late, call Emily’s mobile phone at (0151) 2408 4485.

Are you ready for our first in-person event since the winter lockdown??

Join us this month for an English-language walking tour through Bad Cannstatt, the oldest part of Stuttgart (dating back to Roman times). Futuristic views, age-old half-timbered buildings and beautiful architectural monuments make this walk an exciting journey of discovery through Swabian history and inventiveness.

We will meet at 10:15 inside of the Bad Cannstatt train station (S/DB) and start our tour promptly at 10:30. The tour is approximately two hours long and is stroller- and wheelchair-friendly.

Coronavirus notes: this tour takes place outdoors and is limited to 20 people maximum. Additional requirements for this tour:
1. Medical masks must be worn
2. Contact information must be given in advance
3. A negative test less than 24 hours old must be presented to the guide to take part in this tour
4. Alternatively, proof of complete vaccination or recovery can be shown

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend.
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, adult child, or friend (18+ only)
  • You and your guest each pay the member cost listed below.

OPEN EVENT: GHOST WALK THROUGH STUTTGART

Because it’s the month of Hallowe’en, we will be taking a fun and spooky “Ghostwalk” through downtown Stuttgart and learn a bit more about the darker side of the city’s history.

This English-language walking tour is being held in lieu of our regular monthly dinner in October. Prospective members interested in learning more about the city and our club are welcome to join us for the tour – just follow the RSVP instructions below!

This entire event will take place outside, so please dress warmly and bring a rain hat or umbrella if necessary – the tour will still take place in all weather! Although our guide will not being wearing a mask (so that we can hear her), we are asking all participants to wear one during the tour for safety.

The cost of this event is €5 per member or prospective member, paid in advance via bank transfer

The pretzel has been the symbol of the bakery trade for as long as there have been craft guilds in Germany. However, their real origin is framed by legends. No other pastry has so many places that boast of its invention!

Join host Alison Tyler in a tour where we will learn about the history of the ultimate Swabian baked good, including a 20 minute video that is only available in German. The rest of the 60 minute tour will be in English.

The tour will be followed by lunch for those interested. The Vereinsgaststätte Erdmannhausen is a 20 minute walk from the museum and is booked for a maximum of 10 people for 13:00.

The location is stroller and wheelchair-friendly. This is an indoor event and you are required to wear a mask inside the building although the guide herself will not be wearing a mask during the presentation.

The cost of this event is €5 per person, paid in advance. The tour guide will be sponsored by the IWCS and this is a Round Up For Charity event. All proceeds will benefit Frauen helfen Frauen. The cost of lunch and drinks is not included.

MEMBERS ONLY: WORLD OF TRAMS MUSEUM

IWCS members are invited to join host Alison Tyler for an English-language tour of the Strassenbahn Museum in July!

In this multifaceted exhibition in a large 2,500 square meters, our tour guide will show us the highlights of Stuttgart’s tram history. Marvel at the first horse-drawn tram from 1868 and experience the development of the vehicles up to the “Stuttgart classic” GT4, which was replaced in 2007 by today’s light rail. Detailed themed islands take up individual aspects from operation and technology and present them particularly vividly. A separate exhibition deals with the development of the buses.

We will meet at 12:45 on Sunday, July 26th at the payment point near the main entrance to pick up our tickets and our tour will start promptly at 13:00. The English-language tour will be 60-90 minutes long and afterwards we will have the option to ride the Old Timer Line #23 as a round trip.

This event is for members only plus spouse or partner, up to 10 people (including host). The cost of this event is €5 per person, paid in advance. The tour guide will be sponsored by the IWCS and this is a Round Up For Charity event. All proceeds will benefit Frauen helfen Frauen.

If you would like to ride the optional Old Timer tram afterwards, it will cost an additional €9 per person round trip, paid at the museum.

CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS:

  • This event is in a very large hall
  • You must wear a mouth and nose covering during the museum visit and on the Old Timer tram
  • Hygiene regulations at the museum require visitors to disinfect their hands upon arrival or after using the toilets
  •  Please keep a minimum 1.5 meter from all other persons/couples, where possible

Join us in April as we explore the home ground of VfB Stuttgart and learn everything worth knowing about the arena, its history, and the beloved local football team.

Feel the emotions in the Cannstatter Kurve where the hardcore fans stand and cheer and enjoy the atmosphere of the VfB dressing room. Our planned program (subject to last minute changes) includes:

  • VfB team cabin
  • cabin passage
  • passage through the player tunnel with inlet music
  • field edge
  • press conference room
  • media hall
  • Cannstatter curve with standing area
  • grandstand with box seats
  • Fan shop with 10% off using your ticket

This English-language tour will be 90 minutes long and was a huge hit when we did it a few years ago. The tour is NOT their barrier-free one and will include many stairs. Please wear walking shoes for your safety and note that photographs are allowed but filming is not. Animals are expressly forbidden on this tour.

We have a maximum of 25 participants allowed on this tour and need a minimum of 15 for it to go ahead. Children of all ages are welcome and will enjoy this tour very much, but please keep in mind there are lots of stairs to climb and buggies are not allowed.

This is a family event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member and members of her immediate family are welcome to attend (partner, spouse, and/or children)
  • You and your guests each pay the member cost listed below.

The cost of this event is €5 per adult and €2.50 per child (6-17), paid in advance. Kids 5 and under are free. The tour  will be sponsored by the IWCS and this is a Round Up For Charity event. All proceeds will benefit Frauen helfen Frauen.
