MEMBERS ONLY: Family Halloween at Nymphaea Animal Park

The IWCS Mother’s Corner invites all club members and their families to join us on Halloween weekend (Saturday, October 30th) for a walk through the Nymphaea Animal Park together!

We will let the kids have a taste of Halloween while enjoying feeding the animals at the park (costumes optional but encouraged!). Afterwards we can sit in the attached Biergarten as weather allows and visit while the children use the playground. We will meet up at the entrance at 15:00 to buy our tickets.

Each family will be responsible for their own entrance cost (see below) **BUT VERY IMPORTANT** we must make reservations in advance for the exact number of people due to park regulations that limit the number of visitors. The RSVP deadline for this event is October 15th, so please let Rebecca know before then how many people in your family will be attending so she can reserve enough spots for our entrance time.

Entrance costs are payable on the day of the event at the entrance. Adult tickets are €3, kids 7-17 are €1 and 6 and under are free.

Current Covid-19 regulations – Masks for ages 6+ are required at the entrance and inside the enclosed animal houses/aviaries (no 3G required at this time). The playground is currently open and feeding the animals is also allowed.

To RSVP, please respond in the private Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

Zoom chat on Friday, February 5th at 11:00

Last month’s first ever treasure hunt/photo safari walk was so much fun that we immediately planned another one for February!

“Join us” on a walking route starting in Stuttgart-West suitable for adults and kids! Activities Coordinator Alex Elwin will be giving us a list of treasures to find along the way to make the walk more fun.

There are several ways to take part in this event:

  • Do the walk alone -OR- with a friend/another club member/members of your family/household (as allowed)
  • Do the walk at any time during the month of February -OR- walk the route on or before the February 5th Zoom call
  • Just enjoy the walk without the treasure hunt -OR- see if you can locate all of the treasures on Alex’s list and take photos/selfies or have kids make drawings of them
  • Upload your photos in the Facebook event to share AND/OR share them with the Zoom call on February 5th

There is no wrong way and many right ways to participate in this event! Check out this beautiful drone footage from Stuttgart Tourism to inspire yourself:

February’s walk starts fairly centrally, not far from Feuersee, and then climbs Karlshöhe and Hasenbergsteige. For those that want it there is also an extension taking you up Birkenkopf or Rubble Hill. So you need to be prepared for hills but can take your time as the villas you go past along the way are so interesting to look at you’ll be in no hurry to race by!

How to RSVP

If you would like to receive information about the February route and the list of items to find, please RSVP in the Facebook event. If you do not have Facebook, you can still do the walk and the Zoom call! Use the form below to contact Alex and she can send you the information via email.

This 2-3 hour event will take place in the woods, so please bring along proper walking shoes, a raincoat, camera and rucksack with something to drink. Wheelchairs and strollers are possible to use on the main forest path and babies can come along at no cost. Members + Families Event: Alpaca Walk and Farm Tour

Alpaca Walk and Farm Tour (English)
For members and their families

Saturday, 18th May 2019 starting at 9:45
Location: Alpakafarm Schaber, Hochen 4, 72622 Nürtingen-Neckarhausen
€35 adults / €10 children 6 and up / children under 6 free
Pre-payment deadline May 8th
Your host: member Claire DeVaney

Since they were domesticated like their llama cousins around 5000 years ago, alpacas have been kept for their meat, wool, and as a super pack animal ideal for mountain treks. They can walk long distances on relatively little subsistence; they’re sure-footed and agile; and they’re super fluffy and cute!!

Alpacas are whimsical members of the camel family with lovely kind eyes and a gentle nature. In recent years their wooly faces and observant, calm demeanor has made them highly sought after walking companions.

We’ve organized an amazing day out with these gentle beasts for members and their families in May. It includes an alpaca-accompanied trek in Nürtingen followed by a tour of the farm with plenty of petting allowed. The gentle trek will last around 1 hour and will take in views over the Schwäbische Alb from Göppingen over Kirchheim to Reutlingen.

During the guided tour we will see the farm and furnished with all the knowledge we could ever need about alpaca care, diet and breeding as well as the fascinating role of alpacas today from therapy animals to wool production. As a parting gift, all adults will go home with a pair of alpaca wool socks!

You’re then invited to join us for lunch in Nürtingen if you wish (not included in cost of the tour).

Practical Information
9:45 Arrival and registration – please be punctual
10:00 Trek begins
11:00 Return and begin farm tour
12:00 Tour ends
12:30 Lunch in Nürtingen

There is a Hofladen on-site but best to bring water and perhaps a snack. We will walk in any weather. With any luck we’ll have sunshine but of course be prepared with weather-appropriate clothing such as a rain jacket, waterproof shoes, and so on.

The farm is best reached by car (or take a taxi from the Nürtigen station). If you would like to attend but don’t have access to a car, be sure to post in the Facebook event and we can try to arrange a car pool!

Your cost for this event will be €35 per adult and €10 for each child age 6 and up. Children under 6 are free! To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

To confirm your reservation, please transfer the  €35/€10 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than May 8th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

Members + Families Event: Outdoor Kitchen Herb and Wild Vegetable Tour

HERB AND WILD VEGETABLE FORAGING TOUR
For members and their families
Sunday, April 14th from 13:00
Location: Schorndorf (exact location published 1 week beforehand)
Nearest station: Schorndorf
€25/€39 per person, prepayment deadline – March 31st

Our favorite outdoor explorers, Abenteuerreich in Remstal, will be taking us on a guided walk this spring through the meadows and woods around Schorndorf to learn how to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous local plants and collect a goodly amount of the non-poisonous variety. At the end we will make a pesto from what we’ve collected to eat at an outdoor picnic.

Although we will be greeted in English, most of this tour will be in German, so be prepared to work your brains, learn some new vocabulary, and have your kids or fellow members translate if necessary (we did this on last year’s tour and there was no problem understanding at all!). Bring along worn-in walking shoes/boots, a waterproof jacket, a camera, a penknife, a small basket or other container, and a notebook and pen. We’ll find out the exact meeting place nearer the time.

Current IWCS members and their entire family are welcome to join this event and costs will be partially subsidized by the club. Children (up to age 13) are free and two adults or teenagers are invited to attend at the discount price of €25 per person. Additional adults are welcome to join but will pay full price (€39 per person).

We have reserved space for 15 adults and 5 children but can add more to this reservation as needed. To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the contact form below if you are not on Facebook.

To confirm your reservation, please transfer the  €25/€39 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than March 31st.
