For members and their families
Saturday, October 10th at 10:00
Location: Grabkapelle auf dem Württemberg
, Württembergstraße 340, 70327 Stuttgart

Come and learn about the love of King Wilhelm I and the people of Baden-Württemberg for his wife, Queen Katharina, and how she founded the Volksfest as a thanksgiving party for the people after a good harvest. The couple are buried here and you can learn lots more about them and the place itself through an audio guide tour of the chapel, the crypt and the circular walkway around it.

After this approximately 30-minute tour (it’s only a small place), host Alex Elwin will lead us on a stroll around the vineyards. Feel free to bring a brezel with you, or a small picnic lunch to keep the hunger pangs at bay. There are lots of beautiful spots from which to sit and enjoy the view over the city and vineyards.

We will meet in front of the chapel itself. Parking is available there, or you can reach it via public transportation (Bus 61 from the Untertürkheim S/U train station – the 9:44 bus arrives at Rotenberg at 9:53 and from there it’s a 3 minute walk to the chapel).

The chapel entrance fees will be sponsored by the IWCS and no prepayment or charity round up is required for this event. Please bring €20 along per person for the audio guide deposit, which is completely refundable. The audio guide is available in English, German, and Russian.

Masks need to be worn inside the chapel and a maximum of 17 people can be inside at one time. There are steps up to the chapel and again down to the crypt, so it is NOT wheelchair friendly and strollers are not allowed inside. Babies can be brought inside the chapel in carriers. The walk through the vineyards, however, IS stroller/wheelchair friendly.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP using the form below or respond in the pending Facebook event.

Friends, family and kids of all ages are invited to join us among the apple trees for a summer celebration hosted by member Claire DeVaney!

Fun activities are being planned, such as:

• Treasure Hunt
• Kids yoga
• Kids craft table

Everyone is welcome! (Note: this event will be open to people outside of the IWCS)

We’ve chosen Waldheim Heslach as the venue for our summer party because it is GREAT for kids:

• Loads of outside space and an awesome playground
• Very relaxed atmosphere with a lawn and shade
• Lovely serene setting among the apple trees
• Both covered and uncovered seating areas

They have great food and drinks with an easy numbered ordering system. Please keep in mind we are not allowed to bring in our own picnic food and drink.

The closest Ubahn is Waldeck. From there it’s either a lovely walk through the woods (15 mins) or take bus 82 one stop and follow signs for Waldheim (350m)

There is also parking available on site.

Please RSVP via our Facebook event  with the number of people you’ll be bringing and the ages of your kids before 3 July so we have a good idea of numbers.

If you are unable to access the Facebook event or have any questions at all, please use the contact form below to message me.

Hope to see you there!!

We can get on and off the bus as at any of the nine bus stops in the Stuttgart area. Alternatively, you and your guests can stay on the bus and enjoy the flair of the city from your seat on a 100-minute round trip.

Stops include:

  • Tourist Information/Hauptbahnhof

  • Pig Museum
  • Mercedes Benz Museum
  • Wilhelma/Neckar-Käpt´n
  • Weingenuss / Römer
  • Weinwanderung

Tickets are normally €15  per person but the IWCS will be partially sponsoring this event, bringing the per person cost down to €5 each. Invite as many friends and family members as you would like to hang out with that day and send €5 person to the IWCS bank account no later than April 15th to reserve your spot.

We’ll talk about lunch plans closer to the actual day. In the meantime, you can RSVP using the form below or the pending Facebook event.
