This exhibition was developed by the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and the museum Marta Herford to explore artistic perspectives on artificial intelligence (AI or KI – Künstliche Intelligenz – in German). The title refers to the shift AI is expected to cause in the human community.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE LOCATION

The Kunstmuseum is the gorgeous glass cube building right in the middle of Schlossplatz, a famous Stuttgart landmark that is often lit up at night with neon signs and adverts. We will meet inside the foyer at 18:15 for our 60 minute tour. Please note that bags and umbrellas larger than an A4 paper will need to be checked at the Garderobe.

The museum is open until 8:00 pm on Friday, so we will have about 30 minutes after the tour is over to check out the regular collection if we wish. Afterwards we can go for an optional drink or a bite to eat.

SPECIAL EVENT: ENGLISH-LANGUAGE TOUR OF THE LANDESMUSEUM EXHIBIT 10,000 YEARS OF BEER & WINE

Location: Württemberg State Museum, Altes Schloss
Schillerplatz 6, 70173 Stuttgart-Mitte
Nearest stations: Hauptbahnhof, Schlossplatz
Your host: Alison Tyler
Prepayment deadline: January 31st

Whether birthdays, New Year’s Eve or shared after-work hours, alcohol plays an important role in social interaction. But this is not a contemporary phenomenon: humans have been drinking alcoholic beverages for at least the last 10,000 years. At social occasions, beer and wine often play a central role. Was alcohol the “glue” that held together the communities of previous cultures? Does it still have that significance for many today?

The cultural-historical exhibition “A Heady History – 10,000 Years of Beer and Wine” gets to the bottom of these and other exciting questions, spanning from the Stone Age to the present day. With around 250 objects, they illustrate the long history of the consumption of alcoholic beverages in our cultural area and how strongly it is still part of our everyday life. The geographical starting point is the south-west of Germany, supplemented by historically important references in the Mediterranean and Near Eastern world.

We will meet at 15:30 and go in as a group. There is also a cafe with the option to meet for cake and coffee beforehand, which we can discuss in the Facebook event.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE LOCATION

The Landesmuseum is accessible for people using wheelchairs but babies in carriers or strollers are not allowed.

Coats, bags, purses, and backpacks should be placed in lockers, we are not allowed to take those things into the special exhibit. Lockers are available free of charge in the entrance area.

HOLIDAY GIVING TREE FOR FRAUEN HELFEN FRAUEN 2022

In keeping with one of our favorite annual traditions, the IWCS is once again supporting Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. by creating a virtual Holiday Gift Tree for its residents this December!

Every year our members can sign up to buy gifts for the women and children living in the Frauenhaus. You will be given the information for one woman or child, including age and wishes to assist you in choosing what to buy.

If you would like to take part, please let Sandra know in the event that can be found in the private Facebook event or by responding to the current newsletter email if you are not on Facebook.

🎁Please choose a gift valued between €15-20 (the children’s wishes might be higher than €20, but usually not more than €30) and try to keep in mind that the shelter is multicultural and many of the families might not yet have strong German skills.

🎁Wrap the gift up all festive and add a tag with the identifying age/gender information you were given for when they distribute the gifts.

🎁Drop the finished gift off at Sandra’s house in Stuttgart-Zazenhausen, mail it to her, or bring it to the Members Only Holiday Dinner on December 14th.

Thank you to all of our members for your continuing enthusiasm for this project every year!

IWCS ANNUAL HOLIDAY DINNER & GIFT EXCHANGE 2022

For members only 💝
Wednesday, December 14th starting at 18:30
Location: H6 Eventlocation, Am Höhenpark 6, 70192 Stuttgart-Killesberg
Nearest stations: Killesberg (U5), exit Höhenpark
Hosted by your 2022 IWCS Steering Committee
Prepayment deadline Monday, December 5th

Our beloved Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange is finally happening again this December!

We have truly missed this annual event thanks to the pandemic. This is our chance to come together as a community and enjoy good food and fun during the magical German advent time.

This year’s dinner is being organized by the fabulous Adriana at the event center “H6” in the new Killesberghöhe Stadtquartier. It’s a brand new place – so new they don’t even have a sign up yet! But it is easy to find (watch for the chalkboard directions) and gorgeous.

We will start our evening with a complimentary glass of Sekt at 18:30, followed by a three-course meal. You can find all the details about the menu further on in this post and will be asked for your choices when you RSVP.

After dinner, all members are invited to take part in our optional gift exchange, which is loads of fun every year. If you would like to participate, please bring a wrapped gift worth €15 (no gag or re-gifts please). Choose something that you yourself would be happy to receive because with this exchange, that could very well happen! You do not have to participate in the gift exchange to attend the dinner.

Dress up if you wish!! We are calling the dress code for the evening “Holiday Fabulousness” which means anything festive will work. Choose your outfit carefully, because Sandra has organized fun photobooth-style portraits for those who wish!

And as always, Sandra is also organizing the Frauen helfen Frauen Virtual Giving Tree again this year and you are welcome to bring along your wrapped gift for the shelter to give her at this dinner. All the details can be found in the separate Giving Tree Facebook event

This is a members-only event and the IWCS club-sponsored price per person of €35 (for fish or meat meals) or €30 (for the two meatless menus) includes your food, a welcome glass of Prosecco Spumante (or something non-alcoholic), and table water. To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the private Facebook event or email Adriana if you are not on Facebook.

PLEASE NOTE that any drinks ordered apart from the provided table water and welcome beverage must be paid for by you on the night of the event.

And now on to the food! To complete your reservation, we need your food choices and your prepayment. Prices are listed above; please transfer the amount for your dinner choice to our bank account before December 5th. Then please click on this link to our Google survey to give us your appetizer, main, and dessert wishes.

Choice of appetizer:

  1. Tomato soup served with homemade bread
  2. Bruschetta Classic
  3. Beetroot Carpaccio with Goat Cream Cheese served
