Members +1: Vineyards of Hohenasperg with Wine Tasting

HOHENASPERG VINEYARD WALK & WINE TASTING
For members +1 guest
Saturday, June 29th at 14:45
Meeting Point: Asperg Train Station
Maximum: 25 participants

Asperg is celebrating its 1200th anniversary this year and wine has been produced there for over one thousand years!

Member Alison Tyler and her husband Peter Müller have organized a wonderful event for us in honor of this anniversary. We will walk from the train station up the hill and through the vineyards on Hohenasperg where we will stop to sample a sparkling wine and then walk on admiring the view and learning some of the local history of Hohenasperg from Peter. The end point of the walk (around 17:00) is the old wine pressing house or “Kelter” (one of the oldest buildings in the town) for our tasting of at least five additional local wines.

The wine tasting is being organized by the Interessengemeinschaft Asperger Weingärtners and Alison will introduce each wine. Snacks will be sponsored by the IWC Stuttgart!

We are welcome to stay in the Kelter until 20:00. There is also a small wine museum attached to the Kelter which will be open during the event. There is wheelchair access to the Kelter itself, but not along the vineyards or the museum.

If you are arriving by train walk to the very end of the platform where the lift and steps are located and the meeting point will be at the top of these steps. (Hirschbergstraße leading into Lehenstraße). The train station is around a 15 minute walk from the Kelter – just over one kilometre.

The member cost for this event is €20, to be paid in advance. €5 of your payment will go directly to our charity collection for Frauen helfen Frauen, which is possible thanks to a discounted wine tasting price given to us by the Interessengemeinschaft Asperger Weingärtners.

The Weissenhof Estate in Stuttgart (Weissenhofsiedlung and the Weissenhofmuseum im Haus Le Corbusier) is a unique look into the forward-thinking architectural and design minds of the late-1920s.

WeissenhofsiedlungThis distinctive residential building exhibition known as “Neues Bauen” (or ‘new build’) reflected the societal and cultural changes of the early 20th century.

The semi-detached homes designed by Le Corbusier  and built in 1927 are aesthetic, social and technical examples of the ever-changing architectural attitudes of the time. Following extensive restoration of the interiors, the façades, and the grounds, the structure is now open to visitors. The homes are considered to be part of the Bauhaus school of architecture, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Please join member Lene B. for a 90-minute tour through the grounds and the museum on Tuesday, May 7th. We will meet at 10:45 and start the tour  promptly at 11:00. Participants will be asked to store ALL bags and purses in lockers at the museum. Please note that this historical site is unfortunately not disability friendly (no wheelchair or stroller access).

The member cost for this event is €10, to be paid in advance. The International Women’s Club Stuttgart will be subsidizing the remainder of the fees for the tour.
