In our quest to learn more about the surrounding areas of Stuttgart, we are stopping in at Ludwigsburg next. The Ludwigsburg Schloss (castle) is always an interesting topic, but the city and surrounding community are equally fascinating.

Settled in the stone and bronze ages and occupied by the Romans at the end of the 1st century, Ludwigsburg’s history is rich. Years later in the early 1700s, the Ludwigsburg Palace was built by Duke Eberhard Ludwig von Württemberg and the settlement was established. The royal seat oscillated between Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg between 1730 and 1800. Kings, queens, and mistresses…we will hear all about the intrigue of royal life in this baroque city on this 90-minute tour.

Spaces are limited to 25 participants; members and their families are welcome to attend this event. Strollers for little ones are OK. Our tour starts AND ends at the fountain in the middle courtyard of the castle (Großer Mathildenhof on the Mömpelgard Street). We will meet there at 9:45 and our tour will start promptly at 10:00.

After the tour, all participants are invited to join us for an optional breakfast buffet (not a brunch) at a restaurant to be determined by participants prior to the event.

Members-only Event in April: English Tour of the Ludwigsburg Palace

Queen Charlotte Mathilde of Wuerttemberg

Sunday, April 17th at 10:00
Location: Ludwigsburg Palace, Schloßstraße 30, 71634 Ludwigsburg
Nearest station: Ludwigsburg

Join us in April for a Sunday morning tour of the inner rooms of Ludwigsburg’s famous baroque palace. We will be shown the apartments of Queen Charlotte Mathilde, wife of King Friedrich I of Württemberg. Like many of our members, the daughter of King George III was an English-speaking immigrant to Swabia who nonetheless was very happy in her new home.

This tour is sponsored by the IWCS and is currently open to members and their partners/spouses, maximum 20 participants. If space is still available closer to the event, we will also open this up to teenage children.

This tour does not include entrance to the palace gardens (Blühendes Barock), which opens for the season in March. Tickets to the gardens cost €8,50 per adult.

If you are interested in attending this tour, please RSVP to host Stephanie S. using the contact form below or via the pending Facebook event.
