NEW IWCS COMMUNITY – LOOKING AT ART IN THE MODERN WORLD

We are so pleased to announce the birth of a new IWC Stuttgart community!

Have you ever been walking or driving along and spotted a piece of art in the wild, perhaps in the middle of a roundabout, during a walk in the vineyards, or around a lake and wondered how it came to be there, who the artist is and what the connection to its surroundings is? If so, you are not alone and will enjoy being a part of this community!

The inspiration for this community began with an artist called Peter Lenk. After enjoying at his public sculptures on Lake Constance (Bodensee) for many years, we were inspired to find out more when one of his sculptures arrived in Stuttgart. So began a series of ideas for looking and talking about art in the modern world around us.

This group will arrange visits to exhibitions and sculpture parks as well as hold discussions on related topics – the last discussion topic was graffiti. None of us are experts but we share an interest in art and a curiosity to find out more.

Joining the IWCS interest communities can help build stronger networks and friendships within this club. We are such a diverse group of ladies with so much experience to share – this is one way to get the most out of it.

We look forward to welcoming you to this new community. Please join our Facebook group and watch for community events starting in the April newsletter!

HELP WANTED – LEADERSHIP POSITIONS OPEN!

Like many other small clubs, the IWC Stuttgart runs on volunteer power! And in 2021, it’s time to recharge.

Currently we have a several open positions that need to be filled. Check them out – can you help?

✅ Do you have a little one under three and like socializing and organizing? We need a second Mother’s Corner Coordinator to help Rebecca W. coordinate events for the mums.

✅ Are you organized with excellent English skills and a computer? Our club Secretary position is open! This person takes minutes at our in-person Steering Committee meetings every other month.

✅ Do you love event planning and fundraising? We need a Charity Coordinator to plan events, big and small.

✅ Are you friendly, dependable and have a decent computer? We need a Membership Coordinator to process new members using our club software.

All volunteers are invited to attend our in-person Steering Committee meetings that take place in downtown Stuttgart every other month, where we discuss events and make plans for the club.

Our main organizing tool is Facebook, where we have several private groups set up for planning together.

If you have a bit of time to spare to help keep the IWC Stuttgart running smoothly, we need to hear from you right away!! Volunteering with the club is fun, helps fill the time, and gives you valuable experience that can help when looking for employment later.

Let us know below if you are interested in learning more about any of the positions!!

So you need to be prepared for hills but can take your time as the villas you go past along the way are so interesting to look at you’ll be in no hurry to race by!

MEMBERS ONLY VIRTUAL EVENTS WINTER 2021

The December Coronavirus rules have been announced and we are facing at least another month of being unable to meet in person. At this point, it’s hard to say if we will be able to hold regular meetings this upcoming winter at all.

It’s time to get creative!

At our delightful activities planning Zoom meeting in November, we brainstormed up a few new events that combine actually leaving the house with a community activity we can do online! You will see us roll out a couple of these new hybrid events starting in January:

  • CONVERSATIONS ON MODERN ART – This activity is meant to replace tours of local art museums for the time being. Members will be given directions on how to find a public art installation (sculptures, for example) to visit on their own before the date of a scheduled Zoom meeting. Then at the meeting we will use the art as a starting point for our discussion – a bit like a book club, but with art!
  • TREASURE HUNT WALKS – Members will be given a walking route to follow somewhere in the city and a list of clues to try and find on their own before the scheduled Zoom meeting. See how many clues you can find and get some exercise in the process!

Under the current rules, the outdoor part of both events can be done alone, with your household/family, or with one other friend or club member.

Hopefully these ideas (and a few others we are working on) will keep us busy, connected, and safe for as long as necessary this winter. We’d love to hear any feedback or additional suggestions or ideas via the comment form below!

IWCS 2020 VIRTUAL ADVENT CALENDAR

Image by Hans Braxmeier from Pixabay

Since we can’t get together in person for our Annual Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange, this year we are inviting members to join us in our private Facebook group for an interactive Advent Calendar every day in December!

Every evening, we will post the theme for the following day, which will be something related to Christmas in Germany or winter or other December holidays.

Members are then welcome to share a photo from their past that fits the theme or to go out and find something to take a photo of, like a scavenger hunt. Tell us a bit about your photo and what it means to you.

We know that not everyone will have the time to participate every day, but hopefully we will still get to know each other a little better during this unusual time and also have something to look forward to each day.

Looking forward to seeing your photos and comments starting on December 1st!
