Alison will lead the group along the Weitblickweg trail for approximately four kilometers, experiencing four of the art stations along the way. MEMBERS ONLY: CONVERSATIONS ON MODERN ART – TWO

MEMBERS ONLY: CONVERSATIONS ON MODERN ART – TWO
When to visit: Any time in February
Zoom meeting to discuss: Tuesday, February 16th at 10:00 OR 19:00
Your host: Alison Tyler

Since we can’t currently visit museums together, we’ve decided to try this pandemic-friendly alternative! The plan is to visit outdoor works of art in the Stuttgart area by yourself or with a friend sometime during the month, and then we all get together online to discuss what we’ve seen.

Think book club, but with art!

In February we will be discussing graffiti as an art form. A great place to start is the graffiti art exhibit in the main station in Stuttgart. The Stadt Palais and Kunst Museum also have graffiti exhibitions; although currently closed they have online materials to view.

Perhaps you have seen graffiti murals during your travels or in your current home town? For example, the town of Asperg have recently commissioned graffiti artists to decorate the tunnel into the train station.

Hopefully the art will generate a good deal of conversation. We welcome all opinions, both positive and negative, as long as all are respectfully given.

To take part and receive more details about where exactly to find this art, please RSVP in one of the Facebook events. Alison will be hosting a morning and an evening chat. If you are not on Facebook but would still like to check out the art and join one of the Zoom calls on the 16th, please use the contact form below.

FOR MEMBERS ONLY: MUSHROOM HUNTING

MUSHROOM FORAGING WORKSHOP WITH ABENTEUERREICH
For members and their families
Sunday, October 18th from 13:00 – 16:00
Location: Schorndorf area, exact location given a week beforehand

Nearest station: Ride sharing is recommended
Maximum 20 participants

We are pleased to be working with local guides Abenteuerreich again this fall!! Our guide will meet us in the car park and give a short intro before proceeding into the woods with us to learn how to recognize and collect edible mushrooms.

We will learn which kind of mushrooms grow in which places, what is a cauliflower mushroom, can one eat giant puffballs and which mushrooms make great tinder. After collecting all our goodies we will then gather to prepare and sample a little of what we have collected.

Please note: as with prior Abenteuerreich tours, the tour will be conducted in German. It’s a great chance to practice your German comprehension and there will be plenty of members there who can help translate (such as your host, Alex Elwin).

This 2-3 hour event will take place in the woods, so please bring along proper walking shoes, a raincoat, camera and rucksack with something to drink. Wheelchairs and strollers are possible to use on the main forest path and babies can come along at no cost. We will be outside, so masks are not required but recommended for when social distancing isn’t possible.

The cost of this event is €10 per adult, €5 per child (5-17) or €20 per family, paid in advance. The tour guide will be sponsored by the IWCS and this is a Round Up For Charity event. All proceeds will benefit Frauen helfen Frauen.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP using the form below or respond in the pending Facebook event. To confirm your reservation, please transfer your participation fees to the IWCS bank account no later than Friday the 2nd of October. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

FOR MEMBERS ONLY: TOUR OF WÜRTTEMBERG SEPULCHRAL CHAPEL & VINEYARD WALK

For members and their families
Saturday, October 10th at 10:00
Location: Grabkapelle auf dem Württemberg
, Württembergstraße 340, 70327 Stuttgart
NO PREPAYMENT REQUIREDMaximum 17 guests

Come and learn about the love of King Wilhelm I and the people of Baden-Württemberg for his wife, Queen Katharina, and how she founded the Volksfest as a thanksgiving party for the people after a good harvest. The couple are buried here and you can learn lots more about them and the place itself through an audio guide tour of the chapel, the crypt and the circular walkway around it.

After this approximately 30-minute tour (it’s only a small place), host Alex Elwin will lead us on a stroll around the vineyards. Feel free to bring a brezel with you, or a small picnic lunch to keep the hunger pangs at bay. There are lots of beautiful spots from which to sit and enjoy the view over the city and vineyards.

We will meet in front of the chapel itself. Parking is available there, or you can reach it via public transportation (Bus 61 from the Untertürkheim S/U train station – the 9:44 bus arrives at Rotenberg at 9:53 and from there it’s a 3 minute walk to the chapel).

The chapel entrance fees will be sponsored by the IWCS and no prepayment or charity round up is required for this event. Please bring €20 along per person for the audio guide deposit, which is completely refundable. The audio guide is available in English, German, and Russian.

Masks need to be worn inside the chapel and a maximum of 17 people can be inside at one time. There are steps up to the chapel and again down to the crypt, so it is NOT wheelchair friendly and strollers are not allowed inside. Babies can be brought inside the chapel in carriers. The walk through the vineyards, however, IS stroller/wheelchair friendly.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP using the form below or respond in the pending Facebook event.

MEMBERS ONLY: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY WALK & COFFEE

Annual International Women’s Day takes place this year on Sunday, March 8th! We would like to celebrate the international women in our group with a “Women Inspiring Women” walk & talk.

Members are invited to join us at 13:30 in Stuttgart-Feuerbach for a guided walk through the nearby woods, stopping at one point to enjoy a spectacular view and a glass of Sekt. Please bring along five facts about a woman who has inspired you and we will share with each other as we walk.

We’ll end our walk with cake, coffee and conversation at the home of one of our members.

The walk will take about 90 minutes and does include a few hills, but all on pavement or well-maintained dirt road. Dress for walking and weather, but if it is too nasty out, we will stay in and enjoy refreshments.

This event is for IWCS members only. While there is no cost you are invited to make a voluntary contribution to our Frauen Helfen Frauen charity at the event.

To RSVP please use the contact form below or the pending Facebook event.

Hope to see you there!
Susan and Alison
