NEW INTEREST COMMUNITY MEET UPS IN 2020

We are excited to announce two new interest community meet ups available to members starting in March and April!

WEEKLY TENNIS GROUP

First up, our Sports Community has started a weekly tennis group that is open to all non-beginners (they are mostly a step or two above absolute beginner level, roughly a 3.5 on the USTA ranking chart). It’s a friendly social group that meets Wednesdays at lunchtime at courts near the Fernsehturm.

If you would like to get more details or join them, use the contact form below or join the Sports Community Facebook group to be included. There will be no Facebook events for this meet up.

MONTHLY BOOK CLUB SPIN OFF (TRIAL)

Over in the Books and Reading Community, our monthly morning book club has become so popular that it’s overflowing! Before it gets too big and unwieldy, they’ve decided to branch off and create a monthly evening spin off group to release some of the pressure. This group will be reading the same book as the morning meet up, but getting together to discuss it the second Thursday evening of each month.

The plan is to hold two or three trial meetings to see if there is enough interest to keep it going. If you’ve always wanted to join the book club but can’t make morning meetings, here is your chance! Use the contact form below for more details or join the Books and Reading Community Facebook group and watch for the Facebook event invitation for the first meeting on April 9th.

INTRODUCTION TO ARCHERY WITH CAROLINE G
Members only
Sunday, June 24th at 12:00 (3 hours)
Location: Montessori Kindergarten, Feuerbacher-Tal-Straße 215, 70469 Stuttgart
Nearest Station: bus + walk only, see VVS for recommendations
Maximum 10 participants
RSVP using the pending Facebook event or the contact form below
Cost per person €10 paid in advance no later than June 8th
Please bring something to share for our lunch hour (more in the FB event)

Longtime member Caroline Güldener has invited us to learn the basic techniques of archery at this June event. Because the sport doesn’t require a lot of mobility, it is accessible to a huge range of people of all ages and most abilities.

Archery is the age-old art of propelling an arrow (accurately!) towards a target. Archery dates back to the stone age and almost every culture in the world has some form of archery in its history: for survival, combat and for competition. The ancient sport has now become one of the fastest growing Olympic sports and has also become a popular recreational sport due films such as The Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, Brave, and Game of Thrones. Traditional forms of archery are also used for therapeutic and personal and team building purposes.

Caroline teaches traditional ‘intuitive’ archery using wooden bare bows (flat bows and long bows) and wooden arrows. We’ll be shooting straw targets, among other things, and all equipment will be supplied. Please wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing.

We will start at 12:00 with a light lunch and shoot from 13:00 to 15:00. Please bring something to share for our lunch. Please note that this event is being held in a somewhat remote location with inconvenient public transportation, so if you don’t have a car and need to car pool, let us know and we will try to arrange something!

The cost of this event is €10 per person, paid in advance. The IWC Stuttgart will be subsidizing the remainder of the event fees for the tour. This event requires a minimum of 8 participants to take place, maximum 10 (possibly 12).

To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below if you are not on Facebook. To confirm your reservation, please transfer your €10 to the IWCS bank account no later than Friday, June 8th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

NEW INTEREST GROUP – THE IWCS STROKES

girls-2526556_1920

Swimming is a great way to keep fit that can be enjoyed year-round.  Our newest member interest group, the IWCS Strokes Club, has been created for those who like to swim for fitness and fun.

Each member swims at her own pace, on her own time, at a pool of her choice, and then adds her laps to our online group goal. We’ll work together and support each other as a team to reach our target.

We’ll meet twice a month – once for a morning swim and once in the evening – at local Hallenbad (or Freibad weather and opening times permitting!).

If you are interested in taking part, please join our members-only Facebook group!

Scheduled upcoming meets:

  • Morning swim – August 24, Hohenfreibad Killesberg, 10:00
  • Evening swim – September 28, Hallenbad Heslach, 19:00
  • Morning swim – September 14, Sonnenberg Hallenbad, 10:00

Facebook events have already been created for these meets and can be found in the group above.

See you at the pool!!!!!!!!!!!
