FOR MEMBERS ONLY: TOUR OF WÜRTTEMBERG SEPULCHRAL CHAPEL & VINEYARD WALK

For members and their families
Saturday, October 10th at 10:00
Location: Grabkapelle auf dem Württemberg
, Württembergstraße 340, 70327 Stuttgart
NO PREPAYMENT REQUIREDMaximum 17 guests

Come and learn about the love of King Wilhelm I and the people of Baden-Württemberg for his wife, Queen Katharina, and how she founded the Volksfest as a thanksgiving party for the people after a good harvest. The couple are buried here and you can learn lots more about them and the place itself through an audio guide tour of the chapel, the crypt and the circular walkway around it.

After this approximately 30-minute tour (it’s only a small place), host Alex Elwin will lead us on a stroll around the vineyards. Feel free to bring a brezel with you, or a small picnic lunch to keep the hunger pangs at bay. There are lots of beautiful spots from which to sit and enjoy the view over the city and vineyards.

We will meet in front of the chapel itself. Parking is available there, or you can reach it via public transportation (Bus 61 from the Untertürkheim S/U train station – the 9:44 bus arrives at Rotenberg at 9:53 and from there it’s a 3 minute walk to the chapel).

The chapel entrance fees will be sponsored by the IWCS and no prepayment or charity round up is required for this event. Please bring €20 along per person for the audio guide deposit, which is completely refundable. The audio guide is available in English, German, and Russian.

Masks need to be worn inside the chapel and a maximum of 17 people can be inside at one time. There are steps up to the chapel and again down to the crypt, so it is NOT wheelchair friendly and strollers are not allowed inside. Babies can be brought inside the chapel in carriers. The walk through the vineyards, however, IS stroller/wheelchair friendly.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP using the form below or respond in the pending Facebook event.

Have you ever wondered about the steps winding up the hills of Stuttgart from the valley to the top? These are called “Stäffele” in Swabian and this coming June, we will have a guided tour of some of these famous steps.

Our 2.5 hour tour will start from Marienplatz, take us past the Lapidarium and through the urban vineyard to Karlshöhe. On the steep Hasenbergsteige we will learn about the places you can admire “from the top down”. And finally, the tour ends at the beautiful Lake Feuersee.

Afterwards interested participants and their guests are welcome to join us for food and drinks at a local Biergarten (location to be announced). Members who aren’t able to attend the steps tour are also invited to join us!

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend.
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, child, or friend (all must be able to climb steps for 2.5 hours – no strollers)
  • You and your guest each pay the member cost listed below.

The cost of this event is €5 per person, paid in advance. The International Women’s Club Stuttgart will be subsidizing the remainder of the fees for the tour. Food and drink ordered at dinner will be the responsibility of the member and her guest.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below if you are not on Facebook. To confirm your reservation, please transfer the €5 per person to the IWCS bank account no later than June 16th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Prepayments are non-refundable after the payment deadline. Members who have to cancel at the last minute are welcome to find another member or guest to send in their place.

See you on the steps in June!
