Members +1: Vineyards of Hohenasperg with Wine Tasting

HOHENASPERG VINEYARD WALK & WINE TASTING
For members +1 guest
Saturday, June 29th at 14:45
Meeting Point: Asperg Train Station
Maximum: 25 participants

Asperg is celebrating its 1200th anniversary this year and wine has been produced there for over one thousand years!

Member Alison Tyler and her husband Peter Müller have organized a wonderful event for us in honor of this anniversary. We will walk from the train station up the hill and through the vineyards on Hohenasperg where we will stop to sample a sparkling wine and then walk on admiring the view and learning some of the local history of Hohenasperg from Peter. The end point of the walk (around 17:00) is the old wine pressing house or “Kelter” (one of the oldest buildings in the town) for our tasting of at least five additional local wines.

The wine tasting is being organized by the Interessengemeinschaft Asperger Weingärtners and Alison will introduce each wine. Snacks will be sponsored by the IWC Stuttgart!

We are welcome to stay in the Kelter until 20:00. There is also a small wine museum attached to the Kelter which will be open during the event. There is wheelchair access to the Kelter itself, but not along the vineyards or the museum.

If you are arriving by train walk to the very end of the platform where the lift and steps are located and the meeting point will be at the top of these steps. (Hirschbergstraße leading into Lehenstraße). The train station is around a 15 minute walk from the Kelter – just over one kilometre.

The member cost for this event is €20, to be paid in advance. €5 of your payment will go directly to our charity collection for Frauen helfen Frauen, which is possible thanks to a discounted wine tasting price given to us by the Interessengemeinschaft Asperger Weingärtners.

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend (18+)
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, older child, or friend.
  • You and your guest each pay the member cost listed above.

To start the reservation process, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below to contact the activities team if you are not on Facebook. Please let us know no later than May 30th if you would like to attend – we need to reach the minimum of 15 confirmed wine drinkers for the tasting by that date in order for this event to go ahead.

Please complete your reservation by transferring your prepayment no later than Friday June 14th. If you have any extenuating circumstances that keep you from getting the funds to us by that date, please speak directly with the host so we don’t assume you are no longer interested.

Attention IWCS Wine Lovers!

A small Baden Württemberg startup, Weinkules, has approached our group with a special offer – they would like to use our club to pilot their brand new, in-home wine tasting concept. And given our members’ love for all things wine, we thought we would give it a try!

The founders’ preliminary studies have found that people mostly discover the wines that they like to drink at friend’s places and many genuinely enjoy tasting new wines, in particular those coming from small regional wine makers.

Weinkules is has been developed within the framework of a university project and aims at making the big variety of local German wines accessible to a broader public via personal tasting concept, while meeting with friends.

The focus will be German small vineyards and up-and-coming winemakers. The idea is to present a variety of wines that they select exclusively for our home tasting concept, one winemaker at a time.

As Weinkules is currently refining their business model, they have invited us to experience their tasting concept for free, in exchange for some feedback in the form of a survey.

At the first event, a young Mosel-winemaker will be featured and present a variety of his wines. The Mosel region is famous for its refined Riesling, but has much more to offer. Besides tasting and enjoying the presented wines, you will receive more information on the characteristics of the wines directly from the winemaker. If you like the wines, you will have the opportunity to order them at the event, but there is no obligation to do so.

Additionally, we will be provided with finger foods to go with the wines. Food suggestions and recipes will be provided and additional information about the Mosel region will be made available.

Food costs will be sponsored by the IWCS. The wine is being provided at no extra charge to us in return for a completed survey from each participant (written or over the phone).

This is a +1 event, which means:

  • Any IWCS member plus one guest are welcome to attend.
  • Your +1 can be a partner, spouse, adult child, or friend.

To reserve your spot, please RSVP in the pending Facebook event or use the form below if you are not on Facebook. Please note that this event is limited to 15 participants.
